2017 Chevrolet SS May Be Getting An Engine Boost

If you follow the auto industry, you know that rumors are always going around about future vehicles. And this may be one of those instances but we’re not positive... Entering its last year of production, it’s been said that the 2017 Chevrolet SS may be getting a bit of an engine boost...and if you’re familiar with the Camaro, you’re familiar with said engine.

According to a source that spoke to GM Authority, there have been “mumblings” going on around the Elizabeth assembly, AKA the home of production for both the Chevrolet SS and Holden Commodore. The Holden Commodore, which is also entering its last year of production, has been confirmed to be receiving a new engine so we’re thinking these “mumblings” may have some truth behind them.

Wondering what engine the boost will be from? The same engine that powered the Chevrolet Camaro from 2012 to 2015- the supercharged 6.2 LSA V8. This will add about 121 ponies, leading to a total of 538 hp for the SS.

We’ll be sure to let you know if we hear anything else. In the meantime, be sure to stop by Chuck Hutton Chevrolet to test drive the current 2016 Chevrolet SS!

The Camaro Celebrates 50 Years

This year, the Chevrolet Camaro is celebrating its birthday...and we must say, 50 has never looked better. Since making its debut in 1966, the Camaro has been going strong ever since (we’ll forget about the short break it took in the early parts of the 21st century) and is now entering its sixth generation. Chevrolet plans to celebrate the right way this fall with a few activities and, you guessed it- a 50th Anniversary Special Edition model.

This August, the 2016 Woodward Dream Cruise will be taking place and Chevrolet has many plans for the Camaro. To kick off the celebration, tours of the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant-where the Camaro is built- will be offered to ticketholders. The “Camaros and Coffee” event will take place the following day at the Joe Louis Arena Riverfront parking lot and on the official day of the event, Chevy will have a special heritage collection of the Camaro on display.

This display will include a viewing of the new 2017 Camaro ZL1, which features a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine with 640 horsepower and 10-speed automatic transmission. The 1LE will also be on display.

In addition to all of this, Chevrolet is also planning to release a 50th Anniversary Special Edition Camaro- which will be available on couples and convertibles with the 2SS or 2LT trims. Available in Nightfall Gray Metallic, each vehicle will promote the car’s birthday with 50th Anniversary logos and badges throughout.

If you’re interested in getting more information about the anniversary or any of the events taking place at the Woodward Dream Cruise, visit www.camarofifty.com!

Calling All Corvette Enthusiasts! A Mid-Engine Corvette Is Becoming a Reality

A string of spy photos is making its way around and we have a feeling our Memphis‘Vette fanatics are going to be happy about this news. You’ve probably heard the rumors before, but it’s looking like there may be some truth to it this time around… The next Chevrolet Corvette seems as if it isn’t going to be your average C7 Stringray, but instead a mid-engine Corvette.

While test-driving at GM’s Milford Proving Grounds, the Corvette was in full camouflage- C7 body panels and all. A few things stood out though- like the missing glass cover on the vehicle’s rear hatch. This would be the perfect setup to make sure an engine, located behind the seats, is receiving enough cool air.

Even just last year, GM engineers were caught testing a prototype which combined the C7 Corvette and the Holden Commodore SSV. Many attempts have been made but we know they’re just getting that much closer.

Don’t worry, we’ll be sure to keep you updated. In the meantime, visit us at Chuck Hutton Chevrolet in Memphis, TN to test drive the New 2016 Chevy Corvette Stingray Coupe!

Chevrolet Takes Home Most J.D. Power IQS Awards For Fourth Consecutive Year

For the fourth consecutive year, Chevrolet has received more J.D. Power Initial Quality awards than any other brand. The J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS), a study conducted annually, is based off of the responses of 80,000 purchasers and lessees of new 2016 model-year vehicles following 90 days of ownership. The information gathered from this study helps manufacturers identify any issues the model may have and lead them to make any improvements.

The 2016 awarded vehicles include:
  • The Tahoe, which ended up scoring 19 points above the segment average, led in the large SUV segment
  • The Equinox, which scored 15 points above average and led (in a tie) the compact SUV segment
  • The Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD both swept the full-size truck categories
  • The Spark, which led in the city car segment, scoring a total of 48 points above the segment average
Alan Batey, Global Chevrolet president stated “First, the study results will help attract new buyers to a Chevrolet, as J.D. Power data shows ‘expected reliability’ is customers’ top purchase consideration. Second, the improved ownership experience of our new vehicles will help convert first-time Chevrolet buyers into repeat customers, as J.D. Power indicates customers who have a positive experience in the first 90 days of ownership are more likely to become repeat buyers for the brand.”

This year’s study indicated that Chevrolet is the fastest growing full-line brand in the automobile industry. In the first five months of 2016, the company has seen a 3% grow in retail sales due to their focus on the customer.
