Truth About Cars Blog Gets 2019 Chevy Colorado Diesel “Properly Dirty”

Writer Chris Tonn from the “Truth About Cars” blog admitted he felt a bit guilty about the condition he returned his 2019 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Crew Cab in after a rigorous testing. Even though the friendly driver from the Detroit press fleet office lamented that he wasn't concerned because “trucks are supposed to get dirty”. Central Ohio is not admittedly known for rugged terrain akin to what someone could find in Colorado or Utah, and he picked some out-of-season hunting trails along a nearby lake in a state park to see how big a threat exposed roots and sharp rocks posed.

The first thing he noticed when he ventured out into the wild a bit was that the compact dimensions of the midsized truck along with its visibility made the task of placing the wheels on some of the deeper ruts in question a bit easier. On one of the better gravel trails, some high-speed drifting was enjoyed while in two-wheel drive, always a plus when out in the wild with a truck that was designed with rugged paths in mind. The Multimatic spool-valve shocks seemed to help the ride quite a bit, as the high-tech dampers automatically adapt the compression and rebound settings without requiring electronic controls on the dash to toggle between “road” or “off-road” damping settings.

The knobby, 32-inch tall Goodyear Duratrac tires provided great interstate handling, with much less road noise then the crew expected. The torque available from the diesel engine that cranks out 181 horsepower means that you aren't shifting as frequently or by rapid-fire necessity. The rear seats do have just enough recline to keep passengers comfortable for long drives without having to compromise at all in the legroom category, and this is what makes it one of the most useful trucks in the segment for day-to-day commuting and errands.

After everything was said and done, Chris leaned hard towards the Crew Cab Colorado ZR2 brandishing the gas V6. The soft folding tonneau cover was one of his personal choices to personalize things in the accessory realm, and the rubber/vinyl floors, as well as Crush paint, were some of his other preferences to make things his and possess more individuality. Don't forget to check out this article from the knowledgeable folks at Automobilemag.com that fully embraces everything awesome about this truck once it received the Montana-based AEV expert branding inside and out.
