Chevy Silverado HD Finishes at Top of Its Class In J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study

This study ranks automaker and models based on the scored track record of their reliability. Vehicles that have been owned for three years are surveyed and the owner notates in detail what type of problems they have experienced. The overall ranking is then based on what types of difficulty were experienced per 100 vehicles on the road, designating each one with a “PP100” rating. The study asks respondents about 177 very specific vehicle problems in areas such as powertrain, overall driving experience, and entertainment satisfaction.

The Chevy Silverado was the only vehicle that performed at or above the segment average during the recent study and fared much better than its relative in the form of the GMC Sierra HD. Mechanical systems in trucks are seeing much improvement overall, but the brands that did not do as well as Chevy were experiencing the pitfalls of multiple failures in regards to the engine and on-board safety features. Power had performed on the Silverado, there's another very key area where it ranked as “Best”: resale, where lower depreciation makes for a much better rating.
