2022 Chevy Trailblazer Maximizes "All-Important Urban and Freeway Time” With Test Crew

The Daily Herald staff initiated quite the trip last year when they took a Chevy Trailblazer rambling capably across the old Pony Express Trail in Utah’s West Desert, giving the SUV an intense workout that put its off-road ability to the true test.

They visited some scenic and challenging desert areas with a final destination of Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge. In the 17,000-acre wetlands, the group vowed that they would do the same drive again someday to see all of the different birds and other wildlife at this spectacular refuge. The journey then continued into Nevada on all-dirt roads and the powerful SUV behaved without a hitch.

This year, cruising in the 2022 Trailblazer, the group went on a trip to Salt Lake City and Ogden, choosing locations with more urban character and putting extra emphasis on headroom and legroom. The crew’s testing model was the upper-level ACTIV trim with just over the EPA estimate of 28 combined mpg. The crew also appreciated the heated leatherette seating and steering wheel.

The Technology Package was the addition this crew felt was most valuable, as it adds the Infotainment 3 Plus system, HD Radio, and SiriusXM with 360L. The Bose premium 7-speaker stereo is controlled by an enhanced 4.2-inch diagonal multi-color display with an 8-inch diagonal color HD diagonal touchscreen. It features wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, Adaptive Cruise Control, HD Rear Vision Camera, and LED headlamps. Another great choice for those who are looking to get the most out of their Trailblazer outdoors is the Sun and Liftgate Package, which provides a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, programmable hands-free liftgate, and LED logo projection for a sweet extra visual touch.

Every Trailblazer model comes equipped with AWD and three drive modes: Normal, Sport, and Snow are all primed to quickly change your throttle mapping, wheel power allocation, and shift points to help suit road conditions you’re facing. All the controls are nicely laid out and within reach, and the exterior design takes some notable and sporty cues from the Blazer. The ACTIV trim is suitable for anyone looking for an off-road vibe, and the RS model has borrowed a few great attributes from the Camaro. Every model comes fully equipped with the Chevy Safety Assist system, which bundles automatic emergency braking with lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, following distance indicator, and automatic high beams.
