It was last year when Chevy officially introduced the 2022 Silverado ZR2, and everyone here at Chuck Hutton of Memphis knew that much like other capable and current rigs, it was going to be an off-road game-changer extraordinaire! Chevy had dropped many official hints in the form of a video teaser for the incoming Silverado ZR2 Bison, which will add even more rugged and trail-ready upgrades to this already perfectly canyon-crawl capable and all-American favorite.
Even though the teaser seemed to keep many things a bit under wraps as usual, it is evident that Chevy is again partnering with the all-out masters of customization in the form of the Montana-derived American Expedition Vehicles staff. You can make out some of these sweet additives in the teaser video, but they're fairly well covered in shadows, as many pre-release excitement-generating previews are. The bison is expected to have a large metal underbody protection, just as it did on the Colorado, bearing 5 passively preps steel underbody skid plates.
Looking at what the Colorado had offered in terms of wilderness-conquering equipment, there was also a brand-new front bumper with a winch in place, a new rear bumper with tow hooks, a 2.0-suspension lift, and unique wheels. Chevy also gave the truck a lifted suspension from the 40-millimeter Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers, and this is one of the most important aspects of off-roading: we have been watching some of the most famous YouTubers out there test drive trucks after installing a lift kit, and they are thrilled with the difference. This is one way to improve ride quality drastically and can rover over obstacles much easier.
The Silverado ZR2 derives power from the burly 6.2-liter V8 that makes 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, and the Bison is expected to brandish the same under the hood. The video also appears to show a very beefed-up differential, as well as a revised front bumper and pair of fog lights “illuminating double trouble” that looks a bit different than those on the ZR2. The 2023 Chevy ZR2 Bison will debut this summer, and it is expected to be officially on sale before year’s end.
This will give Chevy another very capable pickup with the added extras to suitably take on more than just a few stray pebbles in its way. The Hotcars.com team determined after a lengthy test drive that this truck has “immense athletic ability” and is that true and well-defined solution for tackling tough trail excursions. About a 3-hour drive east from Memphis will get you to Wooly’s Off-Road park, where for only 15$ per person you can enjoy world-class challenges and the very toughest of terrain!
