Chevy Traverse Offers Peace of Mind For Parents of Teen Drivers

As families in Memphis and nationwide prepare for their return to in-person learning after a year away, surveys found that 68% of parents are anxious to think of their kids on the road once again. Chevy worked alongside the Harris Poll to survey more than 1,000 parents of school-aged children to provide insight into how the pandemic affected their driving skills and new challenges young drivers are up against daily.

During the pandemic, 56 percent of parents said they absolutely were driving much less. If basic driving skills deteriorate, it can lead to carelessness on the road. 75 percent of parents surveyed now report that they feel as if they are much more on the defensive since road space is filling up with more drivers again. The pandemic was also responsible for many delays in licensing and registration, with nearly half of parents saying they were tied up due to DMV’s limiting services nationwide.

Aggravated drivers have also posed a major safety threat on roads nationwide, as 73 percent of parents reported incidents they felt were related to road rage and increased stress of the lingering virus. Well-equipped and class-leading vehicles such as the 2022 Chevy Traverse feature multiple active safety and driver-assistance features that will leave you much less worried about your kids driving to school this fall. All trims come with automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, following distance indicator, forward collision alert, and IntelliBeam automatic high beam control.

The Teen Driver technology will provide a useful safeguard when it comes to coaching drivers: even when they are unaccompanied. Parents can set a specific speed alert, volume limit, and monitor the performance of every drive. The Buckle To Drive feature doubles down efficiently to prevent the driver from shifting out of park if the seat belt is not buckled, providing a high-tech reminder to always be as safe as possible on the road. If anything from a fender bender to a serious accident ever occurs, OnStar Automatic Crash Response can connect drivers to an Emergency-Certified Advisor who can quickly locate and dispatch help, towing, and other vital forms of assistance.

Other new features for 2022 include updated front and rear-end styling, standard LED headlights and taillights, four new wheel designs, and Wireless AppleCarPlay and Android Auto. The Motor Trend staff praised the Traverse for its remarkable ride quality, body control, and smooth, responsive shifts courtesy of the nine-speed automatic.

The 2021 Traverse provides a spacious cabin ideal for back-to-school trips and activities, seating for seven or eight across three rows, and 33.5 inches of legroom in the back. The Traverse will be working overtime to keep teens on the road safe this fall and alleviate any parent’s worry!

Summer Safety Tech Watch: Chevy Now Touts Technology that Acts as an Extra Set of Eyes

Just last week, we marked the official beginning of summer in the state of Tennessee, as well as right here in the Memphis metro. Barbecue will be simmering, live bands will be playing on into the night, and the children of the area have a delightful reality ahead of them: they are out of school for a few quick months. This is the time when drivers have to be more careful than ever, as any of the neighborhood kids may pick the driveway perch right behind your vehicle to get some playtime in.

The majority of backover accidents happen because the driver does not properly take in their surroundings before lurching out of the driveway, and the U.S. Department of Transportation claims that 40 percent of severe crashes occurred in residential areas. 24 percent of these crashes occurred in driveways, and undoubtedly drivers were in a hurry.

It is hard to slow it down when you may be late for work or an appointment, and leaving from home is that danger zone where children may be lurking behind you. Fortunately for the many Memphis area drivers that are looking to boost safety on their commute, Surround Vision Technology is available! For now, it's integrated into the all-new 2018 Equinox, and provides a 360-degree bird's eye-view around the vehicle.

Intended to help assure safety when coming in or out of the driveway, Surround Vision acts as multiple sets of eyes that will scan the area for you. There are four cameras working for you here simultaneously: the standard Rear Vision Camara, a forward-looking camera placed in the front grille, and two side-looking cameras under each left or right mirror.
When drivers shift into reverse and get ready to roll, the birds-eye view is displayed neatly on the center stack instrument panel. Situated right here are also images from the forward and rear looking cameras, so you can quickly scan the entire area before departing. We want to assure you that the safest way to clear the area is to WALK around the car before leaving: some toddlers are small little tykes, and may need to be spotted by the human eye!

The Surround Vision feature is available on the 2018 Chevrolet Bolt EV, Equinox, and Traverse. Rear Vision Cameras can be found on the 2018 Chevrolet Bolt EV, Camaro, City Express, Colorado, Corvette, Cruze, Equinox, Express, Impala, Malibu, Silverado, Silverado HD, Sonic, Spark, Suburban, Tahoe, Traverse, Trax, and Volt. We are proud as a dealership to offer numerous ways that you can feel safe on the road, and part of the Chevy promise is to uphold a longstanding tradition of above average safety features.

Keep in mind that pets and toys left strewn about are some of the biggest lures for small children, and that if you know you have a cute puppy or bikes in the yard, kids may follow. Other activities in the driveway like sidewalk chalk and lemonade stands are abundant in the Memphis metro during the summer: stay safe and keep your eyes open during the longest and most savored days of the year!

Parent Of A Teen Driver? You'll Love Chevy's New Technology

Do you have a teen driver or soon-to-be teen driver in the house? If so, you’re all too familiar with the stress that accompanies giving them the freedom to get behind the wheel on their own. In fact, a recent Harris Poll survey commissioned by Chevrolet proves that you’re not alone- results showed that driving is the number one concern parents have for their teens in the U.S. For those of you that feel the same way, Chevrolet has presented the perfect solution to bring you some peace of mind- Teen Driver Technology.

The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu was the first vehicle to bring us this non-subscription service, which provides a driving report card for parents to keep track of how their teen is doing on the road. For the 2017 model year, Chevrolet has extended this technology to other vehicles in its lineup, including the Bolt EV, Camaro, Colorado, Cruze, Malibu, Silverado and Silverado HD, Suburban, Tahoe, and Volt.

“I, like many of our employees, am a parent of teenagers, so we personally understand the anxiety of having a teen driver in the house,” said Steve Majoros, director of marketing, Chevrolet Cars and Crossovers. “And while we can’t control a teen’s behavior when they are in a car without a parent, Chevrolet’s Teen Driver Technology can remind them to buckle up and avoid speeding, while our other available active safety features can help to alert them in certain situations when they’re making less-than-perfect driving decisions.”

In addition to the safety features already included in these vehicles (think: Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Front and Rear Park Assist, and more), Teen Driver Technology offers even more. This includes audible and visual warnings if the vehicle surpasses a preset speed and a muted radio or paired audio device if the front seat occupants are not buckled up.

To check out this technology for yourself, be on the lookout for these 2017 model year vehicles at Chuck Hutton Chevrolet!
