Future Features and Design Fast Facts: The Coming of the 2022 Traverse

Many of our most loyal customers here at Chuck Hutton Chevy of Memphis have long been asking about the new version of the Traverse: having had its best sales year ever in 2019, many are being won over by its practicality and comfortable ride. Now slated to be available during the third quarter of 2021, six safety features are now standard on all trim levels, as many other competitors will require upgrading to see them in their models.

 

The 2022 model boasts best-in-class cargo space, and completely designed front and rear fascias. Since its original debut in 2009, the Traverse has seen nearly 1.3 million units sold in the U.S., and it is the third most popular car on the Chevy brand list. There are now newly redesigned front and rear fascias, and new standard LED headlamps and tail lamps. The front grille has been updated, and there are 4 new wheel designs to choose from as well. You'll also see the availability of the Dual SkyScape 2-panel power sunroof with new rear power sunshade, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto now boast wireless options.

 

There is a new available 8-inch diagonal driver information center, wireless charging pad to easily stay poised and ready while on the go, and USB ports are now in all rows. The standard safety equipment for all trims now includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, forward collision alert, intellibeam, auto high beams, and following distance indicator. The 3LT, RS, and Premier now come standard with Adaptive Cruise Control, and a new Safety Alert Seat is standard on the Premier and High Country. The front end now bears just a bit more resemblance to the Blazer, by incorporating the turn signal into the daytime running light.

 All Traverse models have three rows, and there is seating for 8 when configured with a 2nd -row bench seat, or 7-passenger seating when the second row is configured with captain's chairs. The 2022 Traverse is proudly made at GM's factory in Lansing, Michigan, where hard-working men and women oversee the process daily to assure that every vehicle rolling off the line is in the best shape possible. The new model has taken care of one issue that was heavily noted by customers in the past: below the gear selector is now a button to disable the idle start/stop system that shuts off the engine during stoplights.

The staff at Kelley Blue Book rated the layout and technology as “completely logical and simple to use”, and there is an optional 8-inch digital display in the instrument cluster that complements the standard central touchscreen display. The High Country trim could definitely be our favorite alongside the Premier: the chrome and 20-inch wheels do a fantastic job of rounding out a flashy appearance and vibe!

Chevy Blazer Vs. Traverse Comparison Via Motor Trend: How do they Drive?

The Motor Trend team has tested the Chevy Blazer quite a bit since its release in 2019 and were very impressed by the RS trim at their SUV of the Year competition. Last week they decided to see how the Blazer stacked up against the larger 2019 Traverse Premier FWD, in some ways defying the typical comparison test. Since the Blazer and Traverse are not in direct competition with each other, it's not a classic stack up and showdown, but you will want to know which one is right for you.

Experienced writer Nick Yekikian says of the Traverse that it is “like a pair of Chuck Taylors – easy to live with and use every single day, but maybe not the best choice for any kind of exercise.” The Blazer, on the other hand, is illustrated by Nick as one that can “help you tackle the 5K” but has perhaps more limited uses as a result. One thing in common that both of these great SUVs have is that they are very similar in price range, as the Motor Trend crew compared the Traverse Premier and the Blazer RS.

There is quite a difference in interior that was pointed out here after investigation, as one issue to be immediately addressed is that the Traverse boasts three rows and seating for up to eight, and the Blazer has two rows and seating for five. As far as interior goes, this testing troupe regarded the Blazer as a “properly modern place to sit.” Climate controls are laid out in a straight line, and the temperature control knob on the larger side is so massive it's difficult to miss. The gauge clusters in the Blazer are a bit sportier, and the four-spoke steering wheel in the Blazer is has a bit sportier of an appearance.

Both vehicles derive power from 3.6-liter V6 engines, pared with nine-speed automatic transmissions. The Blazer cranks out 308 horsepower compared to the Traverse's 310 but finishes out ahead in the torque department with 270 stacked up to the Traverse's 266 lb-ft. Mainly due to its size, the Blazer is much easier to control than the Traverse, and you feel behind the wheel that the car will “do whatever you tell it to.” Even though the Traverse ranked a bit lower on the athletic side with this group, it needs to be addressed that you are carrying more people or cargo, and it is still surprisingly capable all-around for an SUV its size.

If there are fewer than five of you, the compact nature and competence of the Blazer is going to appeal to you and still be suitable and practical. We are going to go out on a limb and say that our personal favorite is the Blazer, with its slightly more aggressive stance and styling, but the task of having more to haul can be accomplished with the Traverse hands down, and with the same promise of safety, security, and longevity that every Chevy vehicle proudly offers!

GM Authority Reveals Blazer's Influence in Captured 2021 Chevy Traverse Spy Shots

A brand-new batch of spy shots on the GM Authority blog this week revealed the mid-cycle enhancement of the upcoming 2021 Chevy Traverse, which appears here to sport the design of the 3-row full-size crossover similar to the rest of the brand's offerings. The front and rear fascias now mimic the design of the latest Chevy Blazer, a model that all of us here at Chuck Hutton Chevy of Memphis are happy will continue to stoke inspiration for the design of many future endeavors.

The very latest 2020 model year of the Chevy Traverse saw the discontinuation of the RS-exclusive turbocharged 2.0-liter LTG I-4, which was replaced by the naturally-aspirated 3.6-LFY V6 offered in other Traverse models. The very first-generation Chevy Traverse saw production in 2008 for the 2009 model year, and saw 8 years of rolling off the line. The 2018 model year was when the second-generation model was introduced, and it is one of those vehicles that has had customers consistently excited with its many offerings and aggressive stance since its early origins.

Situated up front on the 2021 refresh, there is a two-tiered lighting arrangement that is also similar to what is seen on the Blazer, with new, thin, upper LED lighting, in addition to a pair of lower projector beams. In the rear, the 2021 Chevy Traverse refresh will offer new tail lamps, providing a more detailed and unique inner tail lamp graphic. It's still a bit hard to tell what engine type/other tech offerings will be included on board, but the new model should make its debut early next year along with all of the important fine details.

It is currently available in front – or all-wheel drive, in LS, LT, RS, Premier, or High Country trims. KBB Fall Showdown: 2019 Chevy Traverse Pitted Against 2019 Subaru Ascent

After dropping nearly 350 pounds and gaining a very large amount of passenger and cargo space inside, the Traverse is simply one of the best offerings out there in the “nearing full-size” hauler category for 2019. Sporting greatly improved looks, much better fuel economy, and many optional family-friendly features, it also has the excellent trait of a 5000-lb maximum tow capacity. We know that when customers first walk on the lot at Chuck Hutton, they may have already looked at a model that is known as a fierce competitor, so we really need to have our ducks in a row as far as knowing how they both stack up.

The experts at Kelley Blue Book were good enough to feature this exact rivalry between the two over the past week, showing just how the Traverse measures up compared to the Subaru Ascent. Many out there are appreciating the Ascent for its comfort, safety, sportiness, and practicality, and we think this is a pretty fair contestant to throw into the ring. A wide range of engines and trim levels that can pretty much accomplish anything you want are the main advantages that the testing team noticed right off the bat with the Traverse. The Traverse is the largest 3-row crossover in the Chevy lineup, and the very powerful 3.6-Liter V6 engine is a well-honed asset.

There has been more storage added in the Traverse directly under the infotainment screen, and the interior has been improved with a sliding second-row seat. The KBB experts recognized that if you “yank the badges” off the interior, you will be led to believe that you are situated in a higher-priced model. The Ascent is Subaru's first entry into the 3-row category, and the recipe is not at all shabby: a 4-cylinder engine, comfort, great safety features, and true versatility abound with this offering. A decent choice for the price, the major shortfall is that it does not quite have the full list of engine offerings that the Traverse rallies across the finish line within its arsenal.

Both vehicles have the 5000-pound tow rating, and come with Apple CarPlay, as well as Android Auto. It is nice that the Ascent flaunts USB ports for every row, and a whopping total of 19 cup holders. The Ascent ranked high with the KBB staff for simply being a ride ranking high in the comfort factor, but the combination of tech features, lavish interior, genius storage, and family-friendly features ultimately made the Traverse the better purchase choice!
