Chuck Hutton's Spotlight on Electric: Chevy Bolt Production to Ramp Up

With the beginning of Spring looming pleasantly over us here in Memphis, we have shifted our attention as of late to how automakers worldwide are making drastic changes to help the environment. During the annual CERAWeek energy conference in Houston, GM Ceo Mary Barra announced that due to heightened demand globally, Chevy Bolt EV production will be heavily increased. Taking place at the Orion Assembly plant north of Detroit, a target of around 30,000 units per year total is the desired outcome.

There is a large amount of importance regarding the need to remove barriers that exist blocking consumer acceptance of electronic vehicles. Our staff here at Chuck Hutton believes that the energy industry and its stakeholders should partner with car manufacturers to develop a large network for charging, that makes consumers more confident to drive their EV's everywhere. Last year, Chevy proudly announced plans to expand production of electric cars, adding two new vehicles based on the Bolt EV platform within the next year and a half, and 18 more within the next 5 years.

The base LT trim for the Bolt comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, a rearview camera for added safety, HID headlights, single-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry/start, an 8.0-inch re-configurable display, and Chevy's MyLink infotainment system with a 10.2-inch touchscreen. If you schedule time to visit us for a test drive, don't miss out on viewing the Premiere Trim Level: you gain leather upholstery, a 360-degree view camera system, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, heated front and rear seats, blind spot warning, rear parking sensors, and rear-cross traffic alerts.

Last year's Bolt EV received a score of “good” on all crash tests except for the headlight module, and also gleaned a “Superior” rating on the front crash prevention test after avoiding 12 as well as 25 – MPH collisions. It then received the Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS for the year, further solidifying its position as a vehicle that has your entire precious cargo as its number one priority. When its time to hit the road with a bit of extra gear, you'll enjoy the 16.9 cubic feet of cargo space, located behind the 60/40 split-folding rear seats. If all of the seats are folded down entirely, this space is expanded to 56.6 cubic feet.

U.S.News's car blog categorized this year's Bolt as having “zippy performance and a spacious interior”, and gave it props for its long range, fast charging time, and more than ample abilities in the power department. This is the car for 2018 that boasts one of the longest ranges for electric currently available: at 238 miles, you can completely revamp the battery overnight with the use of a 240-volt charger. There are literally hundreds of dollars you can save annually on fuel costs, and the Bolt is the answer to any Memphis commuter's New Year's resolution to make decisions that consistently benefit the planet!
